Preparing drawings for laser cutting
A short checklist that avoids the back and forth before a job can be quoted.
Most quoting delays come from missing information rather than anything complicated. A drawing that answers the following usually comes back priced the same day.
The checklist
- Material grade and thickness stated on the drawing
- Quantities given per part, not just per assembly
- Bend lines and inside radii marked where parts are to be formed
- A DXF or STEP file alongside the PDF
Why the DXF matters
A PDF tells us what the part looks like. A DXF or STEP lets us nest it, check it against the machine and give you an accurate price without redrawing it first. Supplying both is the single biggest thing you can do to speed up a quote.
If the part is being formed
Flat patterns depend on material, thickness and tooling, so it is usually better to send the formed geometry and let us develop the flat. If you already have a proven flat pattern, tell us which tooling it was developed for.
